Naylor, Big Papi Win Big at the
Big Papi and Brent Naylor, Scottsdale, were the stars of the Cactus Classic this year when they delivered a 224 performance to take home the $9,211 winner’s check in the Open and $3,956 in the Intermediate Open division. Gorgeous weather and great prize money set the stage for the 2009 Cactus Classic, held March 4-8 at the West World Equidome in Scottsdale, Ariz. With $100,000 in added money and its signature one-run derby, the NRHA A-rated show was a nice kickoff to the spring aged-event season for reiners out West. Owned by the Big Papi Syndicate of Scottsdale, Big Papi is becoming known as the “horse in the hackamore,” as Naylor continues to show the stallion in the bridle not often seen in the reining show pen. Last September, the pair also marked a 224 showing in the hackamore at the High Roller Reining Classic in Las Vegas, where they earned the Intermediate Open Derby Championship.
